What is the Oxford Green Belt Way?

The OGBW is an 87 km circular trail created by CPRE Oxfordshire. It leads you through peaceful meadows, woodland, riversides, classic views of the Dreaming Spires, and villages shaped over centuries.

It’s the perfect way to explore the countryside that surrounds – and defines – the City of Oxford.

An image of the certificate, with a quote from the Adams family: "It's such an interesting and rewarding walk, we'll definitely be recommending it to others who want to get some quality family time in the fresh air across all the seasons of the year"

Why it Matters

The Green Belt is under heavy pressure. Its boundaries are being eroded by city-related development and its identity is being re-branded as ‘a rural-urban fringe’ or packaged off as ‘grey belt.

The Green Belt is the countryside next door for over 166,000 residents of Oxford. It protects wildlife, gives everyone space to breathe, cools the city and keeps Oxford’s character intact by preventing urban sprawl.

By taking part, you’re helping raise awareness of why this green buffer is worth defending.
