A 270 house development is putting the landscape of the the Windrush Valley under threat, although the developers don’t even want to do an environmental impact assessment. The Windrush Valley Protection Group would like your help.

The Windrush Valley near Witney is a sensitive landscape with beautiful river scenery.

Now that landscape is under threat, with developers Gladman submitting a screening opinion for a 270 house development.  The site borders a Conservation Target Area and acts as a huge natural soakaway to the adjacent floodplain – a critical issue given flooding in Witney town centre.

Given the sensitive nature of the site, West Oxfordshire District Council ordered an Environmental Impact Assessment.   However, we understand that Gladman has appealed this ruling to the Secretary of State.

A new community campaign group – The Windrush Valley Protection Group – has been set up to help speak up for the area and challenge the application.

You can find out more via their website.

Their online petition has already generated over 800 signatures – add you name too!

Please help protect the Windrush Valley – once gone, it’s gone for good.
