Vale Local Plan – Examination info

Hulton Park

17th May 2018

Plans for large-scale housing development at Harwell, Dalton Barracks and Fyfield will be examined by a Planning Inspector, with hearing sessions now announced for July and September.

The Vale of White Horse District Council’s Local Plan Part 2 sets out where the Council proposes to accommodate housing it says is needed to meet Oxford’s overspill, as well as additional housing sites and a review of development management policies such as noise pollution, air quality and rights of way.

It has been submitted to the Secretary of State for approval.  This means a Planning Inspector, in this case David Reed BSc DipTP MRTPI, will conduct an Examination into the soundness and legal compliance of the Plan.

If you have responded to earlier consultations you now have the opportunity to submit a written statement in response to the Matters & Questions identified by the Inspector (see below) and to register your interest in speaking at the hearing sessions.   You need to do this by 5pm, Tuesday 12 June.  (See details in the Guidance Note.)

Hearing sessions will run as follows:

  • 3-6 July at the Advanced Skills Centre, Abingdon & Witney College, Abingdon OX14 1GG
  • 24-27 July at the Advanced Skills Centre, Abingdon & Witney College, Abingdon OX14 1GG
  • 4-7 September at the The Beacon, Portway, Wantage OX12 9BX

We’ll be there!   CPRE Oxfordshire is hoping to attend to argue in favour of:

  • protection of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at Harwell
  • the best use of brownfield land at Dalton Barracks (within the Oxford Green Belt)
  • a more sustainable approach to development at Fyfield
  • the retention of many good existing countryside protection policies.

The following documents are available below:

  • The Guidance Note giving useful information about the procedures
  • The proposed Programme for the hearing sessions
  • The Inspector’s Matters & Questions ie the topics he wants to discuss during the hearing sessions.
