Two Local Plans now Live

8th July 2025
Two Local Plan consultations, for Oxford City and West Oxfordshire, are now “Live” and CPRE Oxfordshire have a busy summer ahead, making sure we contribute actively to ensure ongoing policy which supports a thriving countryside.
Oxford City
Having had its previous plan rejected by the Inspectors last year, Oxford City Council has issued a new “Preferred Options” consultation running until 8th August 2025.
There is the choice of two questionnaires:
- a full set of questions which address all the policy options and supporting documents here,
- and a shorter set of questions that focus on key policy proposals and themes which can be viewed here.

West Oxfordshire
West Oxfordshire District Council’s Regulation 18 ‘Preferred Policy Options Paper’ consultation has launched and runs into 8 August 2025 and can be found here.
It focuses on 3 particular elements:
- A draft vision of West Oxfordshire in 2041: a vision of our ambitions for West Oxfordshire in 2041.
- Revised objectives for the Local Plan: key priorities that we believe will help us make our vision a reality.
- Preferred Policy Options: our preferred policy approaches have been defined in order to address social, environmental and economic challenges and opportunities facing the district. The policies are categorised under the following four themes:
- Core policies
- Place based policies
- Settlement strategies
- Development Management policies
This is not yet a draft Local Plan, and no new development sites are being proposed at this stage. A separate consultation focused on development site options will follow later in the year. However, it is important that CPRE get our key priorities into strong policy ; our top priorities being to protect the Green Belt and the open countryside generally and a strong “rooftop first” approach to renewable energy.
The council is undertaking consultation events details for which can be found here. We would urge our members to go along to these events to find out more and raise questions around the Local Plans’
