Thanks to the amazing work of campaigners across the OxCam corridor the controversial road linking Oxford to Cambridge has been scrapped.

For CPRE Oxfordshire this is tremendous news. Helen Marshall, Director of CPRE Oxfordshire said: “We are delighted the Government has listened to the concerns of campaigners and residents. Rest assured we shall be keeping an eye on any ‘targeted, localised road improvements’ planned for Oxfordshire!”

Announcing the development on Twitter the Rt Hon Grant Shapps MP, Secretary of State for Transport, wrote:

“Today I’ve CANCELLED the OxCam Expressway project. We’re already delivering targeted plans for road investment to boost transport in the area and building East-West Rail with my recent £760m investment in this transformational project.”

The Oxford to Cambridge Expressway has been paused since March 2020. After further analysis and public engagement, the Government has decided the project is not cost effective.

The Department for Transport will now look at more targeted road interventions to improve transport links and help create jobs across the Oxford-Cambridge region.
