14th April 2026

CPRE Oxfordshire is delighted to announce that we have been selected to take part in Big Give Earth Raise, an exciting national initiative where every donation is doubled for one week only.

This incredible opportunity will support our Love Your Countryside campaign—an ambitious project to revive neglected meadows in Oxford’s Green Belt, safeguard threatened grasslands, and inspire communities to reconnect with and care for the countryside on their doorstep.

Reconnecting People with the Countryside

As part of CPRE’s centenary in 2026, this project responds to the increasing problem of disconnection with nature faced by many urban communities due to rising development pressures and the fragmentation of green spaces.

Research consistently shows that access to ecologically rich landscapes plays a vital role in supporting wellbeing, resilience and community health. Just as importantly, a strong connection to nature inspires people to value and protect the landscapes around them—creating a powerful cycle of care and stewardship. We want to address this problem by bringing communities back into contact with the countryside next door.

Restoring Meadows, Building Community

With support from Earth Raise, CPRE Oxfordshire will work alongside communities across Oxford’s Green Belt to restore and celebrate local green spaces—while delivering meaningful, lasting impact.

Through the Love Your Countryside campaign, we will:

  • Improve mental and physical wellbeing by increasing access to nature, reducing social isolation, and encouraging active participation in outdoor conservation and shared green spaces
  • Restore neglected meadow habitats in Oxford’s Green Belt – helping to address the loss of 97% of UK wildflower meadows since the 1930s and boosting biodiversity
  • Provide practical training in conservation, habitat management and ecological surveying, including First Aid, baseline surveys and traditional techniques such as scything
  • Foster long-term stewardship by empowering communities to take ongoing action and care for their local green spaces
  • Inspire a grassroots “Mini Meadows” movement, enabling people to create wildlife-friendly spaces at home and in their neighbourhoods

Together, these actions will help build stronger connections between people and place—while creating a lasting legacy for nature as CPRE marks 100 years of countryside protection.

Double Your Donation

From midday 22–29 April, every donation made through our campaign page will be matched pound-for-pound, doubling the impact of your support.

Our goal is to raise £5,000, which—thanks to match funding—will unlock a total of £10,000 for this vital work.

If you care about reconnecting people with nature, protecting the environment, and building resilient, sustainable communities across Oxfordshire, we’d love your support.

Donate via our campaign page during the Earth Raise week and help your gift go twice as far.

Together, we can ensure that Oxfordshire’s countryside is not only protected—but actively experienced, valued and loved by all.
