Attack on rural Vale

The Vale of White Horse District Council has published an update to its Local Plan 2031 proposals and it's not good news. The proposed housing figures have shot up, leading to the identification of 21 new development sites including in the Green Belt and AONB, threatening to undermine the character of the rural Vale.

Spare a thought for Kingston Bagpuize with Southmoor which has been overwhelmed with planning applications to build more than 300 new homes. Villagers say they simply don't have the infrastructure to cope with such a huge increase in population.

Local plans and neighbourhood plans

The planning system is being blamed as too slow and as a barrier to growth and economic development. This is simply not true. Planning helps us to develop carefully, appropriately, sympathetically and for the benefit of us all. It protects us from short term greed and preserves the character of our villages, towns and landscapes.
