CPRE Oxfordshire is campaiging for a public inquiry into the Oxford-Cambridge growth corridor and Expressway, so that decisions are open and transparent.

The National Infrastructure Commission has backed the concept of an Oxford to Cambridge Growth Corridor of a million more houses, and job creation to justify them. Meanwhile Highways England have begun work to decide the route that the Expressway, which supports this growth corridor, should take.

Both these issues are highly contentious, but the intention is nevertheless that both should be decided behind closed doors. It is essential that there is a statutory public consultation and Public Inquiry into both, so that at the very least justice will properly be seen to be done.

CPRE is demanding a Public Inquiry at which the environmental and social costs of the Growth Corridor should be weighed against the potential economic benefits envisaged, and the routing of any Expressway, at least through Oxfordshire, should be decided, in the open.

CPRE is campaigning to save the Oxford Green Belt north of the City and protect the rural villages in south Cherwell.

Cherwell District Council wants to build almost 4,000 houses on the Green Belt, between north Oxford and Kidlington and between Kidlington, Yarnton and Begbroke.

If the Council's Local Plan is adopted, it will mean the obliteration of the 'Kidlington Gap' and the coalescence of the rural vilages of Yarnton and Begbroke with Kidlington, creating a massive urban extension north of the City.

The Oxford Green Belt is under threat as never before - we need your help to protect it for future generations!
