Protecting the river Windrush

CPRE West Oxfordshire join the campaign to Save the Windrush

Windrush Against Sewage Pollution (WASP) are campaigning to restore the health of the River Windrush, which flows for about 35 miles through Gloucestershire and into Oxfordshire where it meets the Thames. In April 2018 WASP discovered untreated sewage was being discharged into the River Windrush. Five sewage treatment works are permitted to release untreated sewage into the river whenever there is significant rainfall.

CPRE West Oxfordshire are getting involved with the Save the Windrush campaign in terms of considering housing applications, looking to develop planning standards and comment on emerging waste-water plans.

Ahead of the General Election CPRE West Oxfordshire has written to West Oxfordshire parliamentary candidates asking them to prioritise tackling the unacceptable level of pollution found in the River Windrush. We are grateful to Cllr Rosa Bolger for supporting the campaign to stop pollution of the river.
