County Council proposals for A40 to be decided at Cabinet meeting next week

A raft of improvement schemes to the A40 will be considered at next week's County Council Cabinet meeting, including a Park & Ride at Eynsham.

The County Council's Cabinet is to consider a recommendation to approve the 'A40 Science Transit Public Transport Scheme', including a Park & Ride at Eynsham.

The Scheme is outlined in Cabinet papers to be discussed at a meeting next Tuesday, 21 July, at County Hall, Oxford.

Approval of the ‘A40 Science Transit Public Transport Scheme’ will include:

- The Park & Ride at Eynsham – proposed 500 space P&R ‘adjacent to the A40’ with potential to expand to 1,000 spaces.
- A bus lane (eastbound, Eynsham – Wolvercote, westbound, on approaches to Cassington traffic signals & Eynsham roundabout)
- Junction improvements incl. Witney, Eynsham & Cassington
- Bus priority scheme on approach to Swinford Toll Bridge.

Whilst provisional funding of £35m is in place for the Scheme from the Local Growth Fund, the final business case will still require sign off from the Department of Transport.

The Cabinet papers talk of ‘public engagement’ on the above, but it is not clear what form this will take or how it might differ from ‘public consultation’.  CPRE is seeking clarification from the County.

The council is also seeking approval for a public consultation (Autumn 2015) on the long term strategy for A40 access improvements – to include consideration of:

- Re-instatement of railway (Witney-Yarnton)
- Light rail (Witney-Yarnton)
- Guided bus (Witney-Cassington-Wolvercote)
- Bus Lanes (Witney-Wolvercote)
- Dualling of A40.

Members of the public can seek to address the Cabinet meeting on matters of concern - find out how here.
