PLEASE CAN YOU HELP ENSURE THAT AIR POLLUTION THREATS TO PEOPLE AND PORT MEADOW AREN'T IGNORED?
Last month, Oxford City Council approved the Northern Gateway Area Action Plan, which will see the creation of 500 houses and 90,000m2 of employment space around the already hugely congested Wolvercote roundabout / Peartree interchange area of the City.
The Plan was approved despite the concerns about the potential air pollution impacts of the development raised by local residents, CPRE, BBOWT and others. More traffic and congestion will increase air pollution, threatening both human health and the biodiversity of Port Meadow, a Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
The Wolvercote Action Group has run its own extensive air quality tests and believes that European standards are already being breached, even before further development takes place.
Wolvercote Action Group has now launched an urgent fundraising appeal to raise £2,500 for legal advice on whether or not the Northern Gateway Plan will adequately meets its obligations with regard to air pollution targets, as laid down in a recent ruling in the European Court of Justice.
