Rural communities have long been frustrated by slow internet speeds. With so much trade being done over the web, businesses based in villages suffer, local schools struggle to access the latest web-based resources, and rural residents feel left behind.

A third round of funding from the Rural Community Broadband Fund from DEFRA  (Departmenf of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) opens in March and may help to change things.

Anton Nath from the Oxfordshire Rural Community Council (ORCC) urges any community that has previously expressed an interest in faster broadband to have a look at the toolkit and workbook right now both of which are available to download from the DCMS website:

Anton says: "Don’t wait until the announcement before your community acts as timescales have been very tight in previous rounds. Communities will need to complete the workbook as part of the application process. Oxfordshire County Council's Broadband Team should be able to provide communities with more information needed to complete the workbook."

Time for action!
