CPRE West Oxfordshire AGM & talk by Ashley Smith of WASP: Saving the Windrush

20th September, 7.30pm at Blanket Hall, 100 High Street, Witney, OX28 6HL

Ashley Smith of Windrush Against Sewage Pollution (WASP) will be joining us and giving a talk: Saving the Windrush.
WASP have discovered that Thames Water are allowed to dump raw sewage into the River Windrush and the Environment Agency permits this during periods of 'heavy rainfall'. There are alarms on some untreated sewage storm tanks, but not all, and these alarms appear to only indicate filling and not dumping!
Over a two year period these alarms sounded 50 times: raw, untreated sewage was dumped into the river on a minimum of 50 occasions. The Government and the Environment Agency appear to have no control over the cocktail of chemicals which enter a sewage treatment system which relies mainly on bacterial action.

Refreshments will be provided.
