CPRE Member's Events for 2010. 2010 Events: July 2 2010: Walkers braved the heat wave to do the Oxford Green Spaces Circular Sponsored Walk on Sunday. Despite it being one of the warmest days of the year, and clashing with the England versus Germany World Cup match, about 100 people from in and around Oxford turned up on Sunday to do the nine mile Green Spaces Sponsored Walk, raising a significant amount of sponsorship for CPRE City District, Friends of Oxpens Meadow and Friends of Warneford Meadow. One man even completed the route in 2 hours and 5 minutes, by running! Jaylan (age 9) and Tynan (age 7), CPRE members from Chinnor, successfully completed the walk, raising sponsorship for all three groups. CPRE would like to thank all of those CPRE members and supporters who helped to organise the event and who assisted on the day. If you would like to buy an A3 laminated copy of the Walk, drawn by Alun Jones, CPRE Oxfordshire’s cartographer, they are available from the CPRE office at a price of £1.00 plus postage. Call Becky on: 01865 874780 or email: administrator@cpreoxon.org.uk
First person to complete the route (in 2 hours and 5 mins) registers at Trapp Grounds. Oxford Green Spaces Sponsored Circular Walk, Sunday June 27th. The nine mile circular walk around Oxford has been created by CPRE Oxford District, in association with The Ramblers, to highlight the threats to many of the city’s much-loved green spaces. The walk will stretch from North Oxford’s Trap Grounds, which achieved Town Green status in 2006, along the canal and Mill Stream to the Oxpens Meadow, then through green spaces eastwards up to the Warneford Meadow and along unsuspected green stretches back to the Trap Grounds. At each of the three sites there will be children’s activities and information stalls. The funds raised will go towards the work of the Friends of Warneford Meadow and the Friends of Oxpens Meadow, who are fighting for Town Green status, and to CPRE Oxford.
