Roads in Oxfordshire

Many of Oxfordshire's main roads are choked and our rural roads are busier and more dangerous than ever. The answer is not to build more roads and tarmac over yet more of our countryside. Society and transport planners need to look for appropriate alternatives.

Our campaigns about roads focus on very specific local issues. We are currently concerned about:

  • the A415 - replacing the fragile medieval bridge at Newbridge, and the implications for Marcham, which is still waiting for a bypass
  • Thrupp Lane at Radley, near Abingdon - where monster lorries carrying sand and gravel squeeze down a single track lane
  • complete gridlock on the A40 west of Oxford - which is only going to worsen if more planned new housing is built in West Oxfordshire
  • huge lorries thundering through the centre of small villages such as South Newington, near Banbury

After 25 years of campaigning we finally won our fight against the proposed Cogges Link Road in Witney. Persistence, reason and determination win the day!
