Planning - West Oxfordshire Local Development Framework

West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) is currently working to prepare the West Oxfordshire Local Development Framework (LDF). Local development frameworks (LDFs) will form the new planning policy for the district to 2026. LDFs replace the old system of district local plans and county structure plans.

West Oxfordshire District Council is preparing a core strategy for West Oxfordshire as part of its work on the Local Development Framework to 2026.

The main purpose of the core strategy is to identify issues and directions of growth for new development up to the year 2026. The council will make all its major decisions – for example, broad locations of major new housing or employment developments, through the process of preparing this strategy.

Earlier Stages of the Core Strategy

The Draft Core Strategy was published for consultation in early 2010.

West Oxfordshire District Council undertook consultation during February - March 2010 on its Core Strategy: Preferred Approach to help meet the challenges expected to be faced by West Oxfordshire over the years ahead.

The Preferred Approach builds upon and expands the Council's interim position statement (The Core Strategy So Far) published for consultation in February 2009 and the Issues and Options consultation (2008).

Timetable

Following the period for further comment on the Draft Core Strategy during June/July 2011, WODC aim to take all consultation responses into account as the Core Strategy is finalised ready for consideration by the Council in October 2011.

At the end of 2011 the Core Strategy will be published for the necessary statutory consultation before submission to the Government ready for public examination in front of a Planning Inspector. Adoption is unlikely before late 2012.
