The Vale of White Horse District Council (VOWHDC) is currently working to prepare the Vale of White Horse Local Development Framework (LDF). Local development frameworks (LDFs) will form the new planning policy for the district to 2026. LDFs replace the old system of district local plans and county structure plans.
The Vale of White Horse District Council is preparing a core strategy for the Vale of White Horse as part of its work on the Local Development Framework to 2026.
The main purpose of the core strategy is to identify issues and directions of growth for new development up to the year 2026. The council will make all its major decisions – for example, broad locations of major new housing or employment developments, through the process of preparing this strategy.
Earlier Stages of the Core Strategy
As a result of its consultation in 2009, the Council has done further work and has consulted on some additional matters during 2010. Details of which are available on the Council’s Core Strategy: Additional Consultation webpage.
The Vale of White Horse District Council has published its Preferred Options document which was out for consultation in January and February 2009. A summary of the comments received can be downloaded from the Council’s Preferred Options consultation webpage.
For the first stage in the preparation of the Core Strategy the council published an Issues and Options document called 'Your Vale - Your Future' for public consultation in autumn 2007. This report set out some of the issues the District will be facing in the future and some possible options for tackling them.
The council is required to carry out a sustainability appraisal of all development plan documents. This involves an assessment of the sustainability effects of all the policies and proposals contained within each document so that any undesireable impacts can be reduced or removed. The sustainability appraisal process will run alongside the production of the relevant document and will be open to consultation at the same times.
To see a copy of the Sustainability Appraisal and the full Evidence Base see the Vale District Council website.
Timetable
The Council’s target adoption of the Core Strategy was originally the summer of 2012, but this now looks very unlikely.
