Cycle to Recycle: A Radley Lakes Protest 15 September 2007
Join a Cycle Ride to say "No" to RWE NPower's attempt to destroy to Radley Lakes
There are two start points for the ride:
Everyone is welcome to join the cycle ride as a show of support for the campaign. The ride will end at Abingdon. Bring bells, whistles and banners if you can. Watch out for news of Radley Lakes in the local media too, as a legal ruling that may save the Lakes is expected any day. The ride will take place at a leisurely pace. Radley Lakes have been used by Oxonians for over 40 years as a leisure site to walk, cycle and enjoy the environment. Npower has filled all the lakes east of the railway with ash, and now it wants to destroy the remainder in the same way, completely destroying habitat for many species of birds, fish, animal, and plant. But the ash that npower wishes to dump can and should be recycled. That's why we want to Cycle to Recycle. Cyclists are angry that the Npower's damage to the lakes will also ruin the beautiful views of the lake environment on the Sustrans cycle route that runs between two of the lakes. The Sustrans route is to be disrupted and diverted in coming weeks as RWE npower prepares to destroy Thrupp Lake. News of the cycle ride is being broadcast widely. Please feel free to forward this message to people or groups who you think might be interested. More information at www.saveradleylakes.org.uk and cpreoxon.org.uk. |
