We value Oxfordshire's countryside for its beauty, diversity and tranquillity. We want rural Oxfordshire to be used wisely, valued and enjoyed by everyone, a place where people are in tune with the environment and aware of their impact on it.


We have continually campaigned to protect our precious landscapes. In Oxfordshire, we are lucky to have the Green Belt, and three areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONBs): the Cotswolds, the Chilterns and the North Wessex Downs. We also have lots of lots of other precious landscape: woodlands, rolling fields, water meadows and riversides, none of which are 'designated' as 'special' but are nonetheless valued by local people.

Dark skies

Enjoying a view of the night sky with many stars is becoming rarer with increasing light pollution from poorly designed lighting. We campaign for planning guidance to control lighting. Keeping the lights on is a needless waste of energy and can adversely affect human and animal health. Switch them off!

Hedgerows are living things that need to be managed to stay in good condition. They are hugely important biodiversity reserves and wildlife corridors. They need better protection and strong regulation to support the work farmers do in maintaining them.
